Meta’s Business Equity unit focuses on creating economic opportunity for underrepresented groups. The Mixx was tasked to bring Meta’s written content to life visually in their cultural guides, which provide hands-on and actionable instruction that can help businesses accelerate and promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
We created four cultural guides in a series to celebrate various underrepresented communities. These actionable guides educated businesses on how to better engage diverse audiences to make sure they are being authentically heard and marketed towards.
Meta’s brand overhaul during 2022 meant our team needed to adhere to yet still push their brand. The resulting creative had impact and resonated with these diverse communities and their allies. We quickly onboarded to initially design and execute the LGBTQ+ and Latinx guides with chosen artists. In 2023, we sourced the global artists and elevated the Black and Women’s guides per Meta’s new brand design principles. You can find all of our guides and more on Meta’s business equity webpage.
We explored a celebratory design that highlighted the work of Berlin-based queer illustrator Jasmina El Bouamraoui as cover artist. Their work provided strong color cues and thematic visual energy. A rainbow-hued photo frame was the creative wrapper used throughout to tie the piece together. After success in 2022 achieveing 1.5 million downloads globally, we we’re invited back to update the guide for this Pride: Download (PDF).
We explored an authentic illustration showcasing various roles that people within the Latin community fill. This was highlighted through the artwork provided by artist Melita Tirado, and included a striking color scheme featuring dramatic shades of purple, pink, and green. Download (PDF).
Cover artist Robyn Smith brought her signature vibrant style to depict people across the Black community. The range of colors used in the artwork help immerse the reader in a shared perspective of diversity within the Black experience. Download (PDF).
Artist Andrea Cáceres designed a cover that showcases Women through moments in time, continuing to be proud of who they are and acting for equity through aspects of their lives. We approached the guide with the same active mentality which came alive in her artwork. Download (PDF).
